Kang Ultra Lodge in Botswana as well as lodges accommodation and hotels in all nine provincces of south Africa, the Wildcoast
The Trans-Kalahari Highway was an old cattle route, now tarred. It connects Lobatse to Ghanzi in Botswana, completing the connection from Windhoek, Namibia to Gaberone, Botswana and on to South Africa. It is a long and uneventful drive, but one gets a good feel for the Kalahari Desert. The Kang Ultra Stop is located along the Trans-Kalahari Highway and lies south of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. Kang is mainly a town consisting of tourists and other travellers passing through. Travellers like to stop at Kang, since it is about halfway through the Botswana part of the Trans Kalahari Highway and there are no other shops, accommodation or fuels stops comparable to Kang for many kilometers. The Lodge and the Ultra stop belongs to the same family. Much of that you need can be purchased at the ultra shop. Groceries store, a bar/eatery, gas bar and nice accommodations in the form of camping on the premises. There is also a pool to cool of in once the Kalahari gets hot.  

f you drive south from Kang Ultra Stop you can use the hired 4x4 to drive via Mabuasehube to Upington. In Tsabong (halfway between Kang and Upington) you can overnight at Berrybush which offers basic, clean and very affordable accommodation. In Upington, 13 hours drive from Kang Ultra Stop, but still in the Kalahari you will have a choice between Kalahari Sun River Lodge a boutique hotel in Upington, or self-catering accommodation such as Upington Country Lodge or Kalahari Monate Lodge 10 km from Upington on the Spitskop Nature Reserve.

Kang Ultra Lodge is on the Trans Kgalagadi Highway between Windhoek and South African destinations such as Colesberg in the Northern Cape. Colesberg is about 8 hours drive from Kang. You can use any Temba vehicle for this route as the road is in a very good condition. In Colesberg you can choose between Gables Inn self-catering accommodation or the Merino Inn Motel. Still within 10 hours drive from Kang and near Colesberg in the Northern Cape Province are the towns of Hanover and Britstown. The Hanover Inn offers very basic budget accommodation and Hanover Lodge bed and breakfast accommodation is in the old Hanover Hotel. Britstown is only 60 km west of Hanover and nearer to Kang. In Britstown you can choose between the Transkaroo Lodge in the town or Britstown Kambro Lodge 20 km north of Britstown. The Transkaroo Lodge offers hotel style accommodation and Kambro Lodge offers self-catering accommodation on a farm.

As with Kang which is very central in the Kalahari and Botswana, Bloemfontein is very central in South Africa and the Freestate. Here we offer accommodation in beautiful wooden chalets at Sangiro Lodge Bloemfontein with game spotted quite often. For those who want to see more game Bains Game Lodge Bloemfontein will be the answer. Bains Game Lodge offers self-catering or hotel accommodation next to the N1 at Nelson Mandela exit to Bloemfontein. Bloemfontein in South Africa is about 11 hours drive from Kang Ultra Stop in Botswana. Once in Bloemfontein you might like to visit Koffiefontein, which is another Freestate town. Here you can overnight at the Hakuna Matata Guesthouse.

A very far distrance from Kang lies the Wildcoast of South Africa. Allow at least 2 days to drive from Kang Ultra Stop to Mthatha, the unofficial capital of this region. Here you can overnight at the Umtata Savoy Hotel before you start exploring the Wildcoast. Along the Wildcoast you can stay at places such as Umngazi River Lodge or N'taba River Lodge, near Port St Johns. Further to the south and in the Coffee Bay area is a very basic hotel with self-catering accommodation, the Hole-in-the-Wall Hotel at Hole-in-the-Wall along the Wildcoast. Other family Wildcoast resorts to choose from include Mazeppa Bay Hotel and Kob Inn Hotel.

You can also decide to go from Kang in the flat Kalahari to the Drakensberg mountains. If you decide to do so, stay at Amazian Mountain River Lodge Underberg Drakensberg a very romantic destination which is 2 days drive from Kang Ultra Stop.
